December Recognition Ceremony cancelled

Dec. 14, 2021

Dear Students eligible for December graduation:

Unfortunately, due to rising COVID-19 case counts, and in an abundance of caution amid the Omicron variant, Cornell has made the difficult decision to cancel the December 18, 2021, Recognition Ceremony.

We had been so hopeful to celebrate your accomplishments and resilience – but we cannot risk the health and safety of you, your guests, and our community.

You will automatically be invited via email in the spring, to attend the University May 2022 Commencement. Plans are still underway for that event, so continue to review the Commencement website for updates.

While policies differ in every business, we encourage you to reach out to hotels and other vendors to explore a refund, and note if you plan on attending the 2022 May commencement. Cornell staff has been in contact with the local Chamber of Commerce and Convention and Visitors Bureau to encourage flexibility among local businesses given current events.

If you ordered a cap and gown outfit and would like to take it home, it will be available for you to pick up in Day Hall, Room 163, starting Wednesday, December 15 through Friday, December 17, 10 am -5 pm daily. If you do not pick it up at this time, it will be returned to the vendor, and a refund will be applied to your account.

We congratulate you and wish you and your loved ones well during this challenging time.

Sincerely,

Connie Mabry
Director, University Commencement Events
