Re-entry checklist update and enrollment details

Aug. 20, 2020

Dear Students,

In my last update in early August, I gave you some broad information about what to expect regarding classes and enrollment for the Fall 2020 semester. I’m grateful for your patience and thoughtful questions as the university worked to finalize the enrollment plan.

This message outlines the time-sensitive actions you’ll need to take over the next week so that you can successfully enroll in courses or (for professional students) update your class schedule.

As a reminder, Cornell is organizing your options for course enrollment based on the location from which you plan to participate in Fall 2020 courses:

  • Students who are in the Ithaca area
  • Students who plan to transition to the Ithaca area after travel restrictions are lifted
  • Students who won’t be in the Ithaca area

Please note that “Remote Access” instruction mode has been combined with the “Online” option, registration under which will allow students to be able to participate in courses remotely. The newly updated Guide to Fall 2020 Enrollment describes everything you need to know if you’re considering the “Online” instruction mode.

Six Key Actions to Take

  1. By Tuesday, August 25, 11:59pm (Eastern time): Complete the Enrollment tab.
The Enrollment tab is now live in your Re-entry Checklist. It has important information about how to enroll and requires you to confirm the location from which you will participate in Fall 2020 courses.
  2. By Tuesday, August 25, 11:59pm (Eastern time): Complete your Re-Entry Checklist.
Failure to complete all steps and acknowledgements in your Re-Entry Checklist will result in an enrollment hold and you won’t be allowed to enroll in courses or (for professional students) update your class schedule.
  3. Review the updated Guide to Fall 2020 Enrollment.
Be sure you have a good understanding of the instruction mode options and which one(s) will best suit your needs and intended location. You’ll also find the specific timing for your Round 1 and Round 2 enrollment periods.
  4. August 24-25: Review the Class Roster.
Take some time to prepare the list of courses you intend to select during the Round 1 and Round 2 enrollment periods. Note that the final version of the Class Roster won’t be available until August 24.
  5. August 26-28: Round 1 of enrollment.
Please see the Guide to Fall 2020 Enrollment for your specific time slot. Round 1 is limited to 6 credits in order to give all class years an opportunity to select courses with in-person instruction modes if they so choose.
  6. August 28-September 1: Round 2 of enrollment.
Please see the Guide to Fall 2020 Enrollment for your specific time slot. Round 2 allows you to enroll up to your maximum credit limit.

Please know that I understand how different the enrollment process is this year, and I acknowledge that there may be challenges. The Office of the University Registrar, the college registrars, and the academic advising offices are here to answer your questions and help however we can. We look forward to the start of classes!

Sincerely,

Rhonda K. Kitch
