Clarification in regard to access to campus facilities

March 16, 2020

Dear Colleagues,

Understandably, many of you have questions about both the transition to online learning and the extent to which you can continue your faculty activities and responsibilities on campus. We are preparing a set of faculty-specific FAQs that will be posted on the university’s COVID-19 website in the next day or so. Please check that site on an ongoing basis for the latest information. You should also look to guidance from your dean’s offices.

In the interim, I want to provide clarification on the question of access to campus facilities. As you know, we have taken a number of major steps to de-densify the campus, including suspending non-critical lab-based research and closing many university facilities. Faculty are encouraged to work from home if at all possible; however, you may still use your campus facilities, particularly if needed to prepare for or deliver online instruction. If you need to do so, you should rigorously comply with social distancing guidelines, limit any in-person meetings, and not require your support staff to come in if their work can be done remotely. Please refer specific questions about facilities and support staff to your dean’s office.

Sincerely,

Michael Kotlikoff
Provost
